Understanding Acne and the Different Types of Scars It Causes
Acne is perhaps the worst thing to happen to a teenager or anybody. Teenagers, especially, will have adverse reactions to this development. When acne first starts developing it can be the kiss of death for many reasons. A feeling of being inadequate and feeling generally insecure about themselves are definite end results. You may experience a great deal of pain if you have severe acne on your face. Extreme acne typically occurs deep below the surface of the skin. Your nerves will simply become more hypersensitive in areas where the cystic acne is the most abundant. In an attempt to get rid of your acne much more quickly, some will try to squish the actual pimple. This will lead to worsening your acne and to scarring later on.
Though understandable, a large misunderstanding exists in regard to how to properly care for your skin. If your skin is oily, then you will naturally want to keep the oil off as much as possible. However, that is where so many people get it wrong because they are over-zealous in their attempts. By washing your face too much, it will strip away all of the oil from your pores.
If you do this, don't worry as your skin naturally produces oil on a regular basis. However, oily skin that is too dry will react by producing more oil. You actually jeopardize clarity of your skin and invite more acne to appear by doing this type of excessive washing.
There are actually many different kinds of conditions that are considered to be acne. Comedones, which typically appear as blackheads are whiteheads on your skin, are symptoms and indications that you have acne. The actual condition known as pimples are pustules, and then there are papules which are much smaller than a pustule. If your skin is extremely scaly, or if it is red in certain areas, you may be suffering from acne as well. Those that recover from cystic acne, which is a very deep form of this skin condition, can have facial scarring that is profound on the skin. Those that suffer from acne can also develop seriously large papules or nodules which can be painful.
People that get acne on a regular routine basis may do so because of a hormone imbalance. For example, puberty and menstrual cycles are characterized by strong hormonal activity. The hormone androgen is the primary culprit which causes follicular glands to grow during puberty. The end result is that the acne will increase because of increased sebum production within the hair follicle. For those of you that work out, and use anabolic steroids, your acne make get worse because of an increase in the hormone androgen. As you can see, the amount of acne that you have is actually related to two distinct forms of testosterone. Lots of teenagers and sometimes even adults with acne try to get rid of the blemish. However if the comedone is closed all squeezing will do is induce inflammation. There is no way to force a deep blockage to the surface, but squeezing it can make it much worse.
